Beginners Guide to Playing Punto Banco Baccarat Online

The gaming scene keeps evolving with new games coming up as a blend or a twist of those that were already there. If you are a Baccarat fan, then you won’t fall far away from the Punto Banco. Dragonara casino fans must have seen it several times. Ready for some brain teaser? Let’s get learning!

Punto Banco and Baccarat are similar in terms of gameplay. The difference between Punto Banco and mainstream Baccarat is the lack of optional plays. Baccarat Punto Banco, simply Known as Baccarat is the favourite version of Punto Banco offered by most casinos globally. There are a lot of variations of Punto Banco the most popular being Baccarat Deux Tables (Chemin de fer and Baccarat en Banque). There are plenty of local varieties of Punto Banco across different regions of the globe.

The Objective When Playing Punto Banco

When playing Punto Banco, players have to wager on the winner of a match-up between two hands. One of the hands is called the player while the other is referred to as the bank. The dealer deals cards to both hands according to a set of rules. The hand that is closest to a total of nine becomes the winner.

How do you determine if the value of a hand is close to nine? While playing Punto Banco, the totals of each hand are calculated by adding the values of the card. The value of the card is the last digit you get after adding the total value of the cards. For instance, if a hand has cards with values 6 and 4, after addition, (6+4) the total value of the hand becomes 10. But since the value of the hand is determined by the last digit, the value of this hand becomes a Zero!

The Play Baccarat

While playing Punto Banco, it is important to remember that all cards are dealt according to a set of rules. All players that have a seat at the Punto Banco table are the only ones allowed to make a bet. A player then has to select one of the two sides as the winning side then proceed to make a bet in the box that corresponds to their choice.

There is a third bet in known as Egalite which is a result of a tie between the 1st and 2nd bets. In Punto Banco, choosing player means staking on the “player” area which is in front of a player’s numbered seat. Choosing bank on the other hand means, passing the bet or wager, to the dealer who then places the bet on the small boxes marked as Bank.

After a player makes his or her choice, a player can then choose to bet on the tie or Egalite. When a player bets on a tie, he or she bets that the outcome of the hand will be a draw. A draw is when both hands have equal value with no more cards expected to come.

After placing all bets, the player occupying seat one takes the shoe then begins dealing the cards as if they were the bank. When dealing the cards, player one sends them to the center of the table. It is here that the dealer who is in the middle of the table places the cards in an orderly manner. Sometimes the dealer at the center if the table goes by the name “caller.”payoff.

The Rules Baccarat

If both hands have two cards when playing Punto Banco, the dealing rules come into play. The rules dictate whether an extra card is to be dealt to either hand.

Here is the gameplay procedure for the Player’s Hand;

  • If a player has 0, 1, 2,3,4,5 as the value of the hand, he or she will have to draw an extra card.
  • If the player has a 6 or 7, he or she is to stand.
  • If the player has an 8 or 9, he or she has to stand. Having an 8 or 9 is referred to as having a natural.

NB; The term natural is given to 8 and nine as they are “naturally” strong.

In summary, if the player’s hand has a zero to five, the player will have to draw a third and final card. If the player’s hand has a value of six to nine, the player doesn’t have to draw an extra card. Instead, the player will have to stand.

For the Bank’s Hand, players have to follow the gameplay below

  • If the Bank has a total value of 0,1 and 2, the player can draw anything
  • If the Bank has a value of 3, the player can draw cards with the values of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9
  • If the Bank has a value of 4, the player can draw cards with the value of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
  • If the Bank has a value of 5, the player can draw cards with the value 4, 5, 6, 7
  • If the Bank has a value of 6, the player can draw cards with the value of 6 and 7
  • If the Bank has a value of 7 the player has to stand
  • If the Bank has a value of 8 and 9, the player has to stand since 8 and 9 are considered natural

NB; when the Bank’s hand has a value of six, some complexity is added to the gameplay. A Bank can only draw a card if a player’s total of six and seven are reached with three cards. If it is reached using a two-card total, then the Bank stands.

The Payout

If a Player wins his or her bet, the payment is made on even money. All Punto Banco Bank winnings are paid at odds of 19 to 20 which implies that there is a 5% tax on Bank winnings. Winnings from the tie (Egalite bet) are paid at 8-1.

Playing with the Bank gives the house an edge of 1.17% while playing with the Player gives the house an edge of 1.36%. The real odds of waging an Egalite bet are 9.47-1; this gives the house a massive edge of about 14%. If you love the game, this shouldn’t stop you.
